Whether you are a returning family, a new face in our hallways, or a valued neighbor, business, or retiree in our local community, we are thrilled to welcome you. This marks the beginning of a great journey together in our Nationally Recognized Blue Ribbon School, and our entire staff is looking forward to providing your child with a world-class education.
As an “A” rated school and a recipient of the Florida School Recognition Award for over twenty years, we are deeply committed to exceeding your expectations. Our absolute priority is to ensure that your child experiences profound academic, social, and emotional growth. Furthermore, we are proud to share that The Sanibel School is a PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) Model School, meaning we are dedicated to fostering a safe, positive, and encouraging environment where every student can thrive.
Our school maintains exceptionally high academic standards, consistently ranking as one of the top K-8 schools in the State of Florida. Our students regularly score at the very top on standardized reading, writing, science, social studies, and math tests compared to other schools in Lee County, placing us comfortably in the top 5% of schools statewide.
An important goal for us is to ensure that parents and guardians feel just as at home here as our students do. Open communication is the key to achieving this goal, and we have several ways of keeping you connected:
- School Handbooks: The Elementary and Middle School Handbooks outline our important programs and policies. For your convenience, these are also printed inside the student planners for grades 3–8.
- The Sanibel Monday Reporter: This weekly newsletter will be emailed to you at home each week with information about upcoming events. If you prefer, you can also request that a printed copy be sent home with your child.
- Primary Newsletters: Families with students in grades K–2 will receive regular classroom newsletters emailed directly from their child's teacher.
- A Quick Reminder: To ensure you receive all of this vital information, please remember to update your contact details in FOCUS at the start of each year. Our office staff is always happy to assist you with this!
Of course, our success with students is only possible because of the incredible support of our families and community. The Sanibel School has always enjoyed a very strong, active PTA, and we warmly encourage everyone to become involved. The PTA is vital in providing our school with enriching programs, instructional materials, and leadership. Additionally, the Sanibel School Fund (S.S.F.) and the Sanctuary Fund do an incredible job of raising money for our school. We are profoundly grateful for the generosity of these funds, as well as our parents and local businesses, whose support enables us to provide truly incredible educational enhancements for our students.
Finally, we would love to invite you to share your unique talents and abilities to provide an even greater experience for our kids. Our school thrives on a robust volunteer program, and we welcome help from all corners of our community—including parents, businesses, retirees, and college students.
There are countless ways to get involved, from participating in advisory councils and mentoring individual students, to supporting our busy teachers and office staff. In fact, volunteering in the classroom is an absolute joy! Some of our regular volunteers share how much they love taking a break in their schedule to assist our Kindergarten classes—helping the children with crafts, singing along to educational songs and poems, or playing outside on the playground. It’s a wonderful experience that the kids love, and it gives our hardworking teachers a much-appreciated extra set of hands.
You don't have to be a parent to make a difference here. Your time, presence, and support are vital to our continued success. With your partnership, this will undoubtedly be another outstanding school year!
