Principal's Message

Dear Parents and Students,

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to The Sanibel School. This is the beginning of a great school year in our Nationally Recognized Blue Ribbon School! We are looking forward to the opportunity to provide your child with a quality education.

An important goal for us at The Sanibel School is to see that the parents and guardians of students, like the students themselves, feel at home. Communication is one way to achieve this goal. The Elementary and Middle School Handbooks (also printed in the students’ planners for grades 3- 8) have been prepared for your convenience and yearlong use. We have tried to include important information about our school programs and policies. A weekly newsletter, The Sanibel Monday Reporter, will also be e-mailed to you at home each week to provide you with additional information about upcoming events and activities. You may also request that a printed copy of the Monday Reporter be sent home with your child each week. Please take time to read the newsletter each week to help feel more connected to what is going on at our school. Families with students in grades K- 2 will receive a regular classroom newsletter emailed from their teacher. In order to make sure that we have the most current email address for each family, please make sure to update your contact information in FOCUS each year. Our office staff is happy to assist you with this if needed.

The Sanibel School has high academic standards for its students and has been consistently ranked as one of the top K-8 schools in the State of Florida! We typically score at the top on standardized reading, writing, science, social studies and math tests compared to other schools in Lee County and score in the top 5% of schools in the state of Florida.

Our success with students is due in part to the support of our families. The Sanibel School has always had a very strong and active PTA. Everyone is encouraged to become involved in the PTA, which has been active in providing the school with programs, instructional materials, suggestions, and the leadership to improve our students’ educational opportunities.

In addition to the PTA, the Sanibel School Fund (S.S.F.) and Sanctuary Fund have done an incredible job of raising money for our school. We are so appreciative of the support our school has received from both of these funds, as well as from our parents, businesses, and the community, all of which enables us to provide incredible enhancements for our students.

As a Nationally Recognized Blue Ribbon School, as an “A” school, and a recipient of the Florida School Recognition Award for over twenty years, we are committed to exceeding your expectations and to providing the best education possible for your child. I want to assure you that the staff and I will do our best to ensure that your child experiences academic, social, and emotional growth. With your help and assistance, this should be another outstanding school year!

Sincerely,

Jennifer Lusk

Principal
