Principal's Message

First, I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to the 2019-2020 school year.  We are very excited to have you aboard again or for the very first time.   You will find that The Sanibel School is a small community school that helps children to thrive academically, socially, and physically.   Safety is of huge importance to me as your child’s principal.  Throughout the year we will be practicing many drills and you may have noticed that you no longer can walk right in the front office.   But please do not let that stop you from coming to enjoy lunch or activities with your child or grandchildren.  Simply ring the doorbell.  If my office staff recognizes you, you will be allowed to enter.  If they do not recognize you, or you are new to our school, you may speak to us via the doorbell and state your business and show your Driver’s License so we can identify who you are.   Once verified with our system, one of my staff will be glad to welcome you into our beautiful campus.

Many of you have been wondering where The Sanibel School is with enrollment. Actually, we are up from last year.   I want to thank our PTA and SSF team for helping to raise awareness of the waiver process to join our team.  We were at 265 students last year, and at the time of this letter, we are at 310.   We have added a 2nd Kindergarten class to our school as of last week.  1st and 2nd grade will share a roaming teacher as their numbers don’t warrant the second teacher just yet.  The district will monitor our numbers closely the first 10 days of school to see what supports if any need to be put into place.  I want to assure you that this is common practice in our district and has happened at the Sanibel School before.   It is just new for some of you, who may have just started with us at the Sanibel School.   Your child’s education is my top priority as the Principal of this school.   That is why I am pleased to have Veteran and Lead Teacher Emily Wells in first grade and Veteran and Lead Teacher Laurie Sanders in 2nd grade to guide the instruction.   I am confident we will have another very successful year.

I have outstanding news to share.   Our School Accountability report came out.   We were at 698 in 2018 and 760 in 2019.   We are the highest scoring school in Lee County, and in the top 50 schools in the state of Florida.   This is out of over 2000 schools statewide.   I am humbled and proud of the work of our teachers, staff, and most certainly the students.   If you get a chance, please take the time to congratulate our faculty and staff.

I am honored to serve as your child’s principal!  Please feel free to stop in or call anytime.

Mr. Chuck Vilardi
