SCHOOL COUNSELOR

STACEY KING IS OUR NEW SCHOOL COUNSELOR

My name is Stacey King and I am so excited to join the team at The Sanibel School as the new School Counselor!  By way of background, I am a career changer who began working in finance in New York City after graduating from college.  From there, I worked as a trader at a hedge fund for 13 years prior to going to graduate school to become a School Counselor.  My passion has always been to work with children, so I was very happy to make this transition in my career!  I worked in the Bronx, New York in the field of education for the last 11 years where I held the positions of School Counselor, College Advisor, Assistant Principal and Principal.  Most recently, I worked at the district level in Manhattan where I supported a portfolio of public schools to achieve strong student outcomes related to student academic performance, graduation and attendance rates.  I relocated to Bonita Springs, Florida in February and am so excited to be working with the students, families and faculty of The Sanibel School!  I am looking forward to ending 2019 strong and am looking forward to the next school-year.  Please stop by my office to say hello as I am eager to meet you and to see how I can best support you!  I look forward to our partnership!

MIDDLE SCHOOL MATH BOOT CAMP

Our Florida Standards Assessment (FSA) tests are quickly approaching. The FSA is one measure of a student’s achievement of Florida’s education standards. The test results allow teachers to  determine whether the grade level goals are being met and if students are ready to move on to the next level.  Mrs. Scarnato has invited middle school students for one afternoon to review the math skills that they may need a little help with prior to testing. These Math Boot Camps will start right after school and work until 6:15 p.m. During that time, she will be providing a review that is aligned with skills needed for the FSA. We will take some time out for snacks and breaks.

The boot camp is free to any student that is willing to give up their evening.

The sixth grade night for students who are taking 6th grade math will be April 1th

Sixth graders and 7th graders taking 7th grade math will meet on April 3th

Donations of food items for each night are appreciated. If you would be willing to donate, or know of someone that would be willing to donate, please let Mrs. Scarnato know.  There is no charge for attendance, so any donations will be greatly appreciated.  Also, parents that would like to help with food and supervision are welcome. If you have any questions please email Mrs. Scarnato for further details.

MANY THANKS TO “IN THE GARDEN” AT R.S. WALSH LANDSCAPING FROM MRS. THOMPSON’S THIRD GRADERS

Mrs. Thompson’s third grade class would like to thank Cindi Vos from “In the Garden” for her help and expertise in selecting the perfect plants that were planted in the raised garden beds on the campus of The Sanibel School.  The third grade girls and boys worked very industriously planting the healthy plants and flowers. The bright colors and varieties are quite magnificent and were selected to attract butterflies and other pollinators! The students are very excited to share the responsibility of watering and caring for their new garden. They are also thrilled to await more gorgeous blossoms as well as a few butterflies!  Thank you to R.S. Walsh Landscaping and special thanks to Cindi, Jake, and Chris for your personal attention and guidance in helping to make our garden beds so wonderful!

8TH GRADE END OF YEAR PROMOTION CEREMONY VIDEO

The Sanibel School's Video Editing class is creating the 8th grade Promotion Ceremony Video to honor the class of 2019.  We need your 8th grade student's baby photo and photos of them together with their Sanibel School friends through the years for this commemorative video. To submit photos, please share them in Google Drive or send an electronic copy of the photos to heatherlw@leeschools.net.   But hard copies will do too, just label them with the student's name and drop them off in the Media Center.  They will be returned to you after scanning.  Thank you for your support to make our 8th grade video awesome.
