CITIZENS OF THE WEEK
Students in Kindergarten and 1st Grade earn Sea Horse tickets for good behavior, helpful attitude, and an eagerness to learn. Each week we select a Sea Horse ticket winner from these classes. These students get to come to the office and select a prize from our prize cabinet. The following students are this week’s citizens of the week: Kacelyn Noorlander, Chloe Selby, Libby Phalen, and Natalya Sampas. Congratulations!
MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS OF THE MONTH
We are excited to announce our new middle school students of the months for January and February: Ella Stroud, Jack Byers, Bailey Drobnyk, Chet Sproles, Kristian Schafer, Camryn Peach, Lilly Noorlander, Vincas Jankauskas, Sophia Black, Kaitlyn Ricciardella, J.J. Ignac, and Amy Martinez. All students will be recognized on Sea TV News as well as have their photo displayed on the Middle School Bulletin Board. Congratulations to all of these fabulous students!
8th GRADE PROMOTION
It’s time to start planning for this year’s 8th Grade Promotion Ceremony and events in May! If you are a parent of an 8th grade student and are interested in participating in a planning committee, please email Jamie Reid at [email protected]. We will be having a planning meeting soon!
2018 FSA BOOT CAMP Mrs. Scarnato is organizing a boot camp for all middle school students taking the FSA. The sixth grade night for students who are taking 6th grade math will be April 16th, sixth graders taking 7th grade math will meet on April 17th, April 19th for Honors Algebra, and April 23rd for Pre Algebra. If you would like for your child to join her for the boot camp, please see the attached flyer. Flyers were also sent home with all middle school students.
ELEMENTARY CHOIR REHEARSAL ON MONDAY, MARCH 26TH. NEXT REHEARSAL TO TAKE PLACE ON MONDAY, APRIL 9Th FROM 2:15-3:25PM
The Elementary Choir will have rehearsal on Monday, March 26th during their normal rehearsal time from 2:15-3:05 pm in the music room. There will not be a rehearsal on Monday, April 2nd. The next rehearsal will take place for a slightly extended time on Monday, April 9th from 2:15-3:25pm in the music room. Please contact Mr. Giangreco at [email protected] if you have any questions.
SEAHORSE CHORALE TO PERFORM AT A SCHOOL BOARD MEETING FOR THE SCHOOL DISTRICT OF LEE COUNTY ON TUESDAY, MARCH 27TH Seahorse Chorale will be presenting a performance at a school board meeting for The School District of Lee County on Tuesday, March 27th. Their performance will begin around 5:30pm and continue into the beginning of the school board meeting at the Lee County Public Education Center. As school board meetings are opened to the public, you are invited to come to the meeting and support Seahorse Chorale in their performance. Field Day is Thursday, March 29th 2018. All students K-5 will be participating in FUN! Activities are from 8:30 am to 10:45am. 6th graders will be running the stations. Parents are welcome to come!
Please remind your students to:
*Dress appropriately and use sunscreen.
*Bring water bottles-with their name on it. An extra shirt is also recommended.
*Use good sportsmanship! Field Day should be FUN!
We will wrap up our field day with a barbeque! A hot dog, chips, and a drink will be available for all students at a cost of $2.00. Please send cash money with your child on Field Day.
Parents of currently enrolled eighth graders were mailed their high school application on January 19, 2018. Those receiving applications can save time by applying online! Please read the documents sent to you carefully, and determine if you wat to apply online, mail it in, or bring it to the Lee County School District Office. If you are the parent of a preschool child that will be attending kindergarten next year, please contact Donna Marks (239-472-1617) for more information about registering your child for school next year.
KINDERGARTEN ORIENTATION AT THE SANIBEL SCHOOL
This year we will have an orientation for kindergartners on April 26, 2018 from 5:30 pm. to 6:30 pm. We invite you and your child to come tour our campus, have your questions answered, and meet the kindergarten teachers too. FALL BOOK DRIVE GIVING BRINGS JOY TO BONITA!
Hurricane Irma sure did mess up our calendar, but she only brought out the best in our kids, families, and community. When our kids knew they were going to receive new books at our fall book fair, they asked to give used books from their own personal libraries to bring joy and hope to other kids who lost everything in the big storm. Our students, local author Kyle Miller, and local news reporter Jeff Lysiak all donated beautiful children’s books which we then were able to present to the children of Bonita Springs Elementary School. Many of their homes in the Imperial River area were devastated in the flooding before, during, and after Irma. It makes me truly proud to relay that those storm victims received 505 books because of The Sanibel School’s collective generosity. Thank you, everyone for letting our community know that we care.
VOLUNTEERS AND COMMUNITY SERVICE HELPERS NEEDED FOR A WILD ADVENTURE AT THE BOOK FAIR SAFARI!
We are celebrating reading and it's going to be WILD! This spring's Scholastic Book Fair Safari will be held April 11th through 18th in the Media Center, and we need volunteers! Volunteer safari hosts and guides can prepare decorations, hang posters, set up equipment, assist parent night and after school shoppers, restock merchandise, and help pack-up and clean up. Enjoy growing strong readers as you help shoppers track and locate books to take them on exotic adventures and grow their pride. Track And Field Practice-We will have practice on Thursday, March 29th, from 2:15-4:00 pm this week only for the athletes who qualified to go to district championship. District Championships will be Wednesday and Thursday (4/4-4/5). Congratulations to all athletes, all did an excellent job. Athletes are to come to Mrs. Scarnato’s room right after school. Please bring running shoes and black shorts. All athletes need to have an intramural consent form signed.
Girl’s and Boys’ Tennis: Tennis try-outs for boys and girls will be Tuesday, March 27 and Thursday, March 29 from 2:15- 4:00 pm. All players need to meet in Mrs. Scarnato’s room directly after school. In order for a student to partake in sports, their Intramural Athletics Acknowledge, Consent and Release Form must be turned in to Mrs. Scarnato. Parents, please be sure to pick up your players at 4:00 pm at The Sanibel Rec Center. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Scarnato. They must also meet the GPA and behavior criteria in order to participate.

All players need report to the Dunes Golf and Country Club to meet up with Coach Chris. Students must also meet the GPA and behavior criteria in order to participate.
