Students in Kindergarten and 1st Grade earn Sea Horse tickets for good behavior, helpful attitude, and an eagerness to learn. Each week we select a Sea Horse ticket winner from these classes.  These students get to come to the office and select a prize from our prize cabinet. The following students are this week’s citizens of the week: Taylor O’Brien, Journey Johnson, Yuan Bonhayag, and Olivia Burns.  Congratulations!

ELEMENTARY CHOIR REHEARSAL ON MONDAY, APRIL 3RD.  NEXT REHEARSAL MONDAY, APRIL 24TH.                                                                                                              The Elementary Choir will have rehearsal on Monday, April 3rd during their normal rehearsal time from 2:15-3:05pm in the music room.  The choir will have their next rehearsal after spring break on Monday, April 24th.  Please contact Mr. Giangreco at [email protected] if you have any questions. 


What a fiesta!  Thank you to all who came to share the fun and support our Spanish program and Scholastic book Fair Thursday night!  The students’ performances were fantastic, and the book fair got off to a super start!  Parents, Grandparents, and Friends, we do still need volunteers this Monday, April 3rd through Wednesday, April 5th in the Media Center!  Volunteer Amigos y Amigas can assist shoppers, restock merchandise, and help pack-up and clean up.  Adult volunteers can sign up to help at  Middle School Students, we need you too! Each year the Alliance of the Arts on McGregor Ave. in Ft. Myers host a district wide art show which displays the best art created during the 2016-17 school year at each school. This year the show will be from April 4th through April 14th. There will be a reception from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM for the opening.    The license plate district winner’s art will also be displayed: Ethan Mathusa and Maya Brennan.

Strike out bullying with the fort myers miracles

The Fort Myers Miracle are excited to invite schools to participate in the NEW Fort Myers Miracle pledge to Strike Out Bullying!  They look forward to encouraging students to sign a pledge to help end bullying.  Students who complete the pledge will receive a FREE game ticket to watch the Miracle play the Dunedin Blue Jays on Saturday, April 29 at 6:05 p.m.  All participants will be invited to take part in a parade shortly after the gates open at 5 p.m.  In addition, participants will also receive a prize from Zoomers Amusement Park at the game.  Mention Strike Out Bullying for a special rate and $2 from your ticket goes to the Lee County School district’s anti-bullying efforts.  If you would like a copy of the pledge, let Mrs. Reynolds know.

THE SANIBEL SCHOOL MUSIC DEPARTMENT TO PRESENT SPRING MUSIC SHOWCASE AT BIG ARTS THURSDAY, APRIL 6TH AT 7:00PM                                         On Thursday, April 6th at 7:00pm, The Sanibel School Music Department will present their Spring Music Showcase at BIG ART’s Schein Hall (900 Dunlop Road Sanibel Island, FL 33957).  This concert will showcase the many talented students we have in some of our ensembles here at The Sanibel School.  The concert will feature performances from the Steel Drumming Band and Elementary Choir.  Also, Performing Arts will perform a couple of scenes form their upcoming production of The Wizard of Oz.  Tickets for this concert are $5.00.  They can be purchased online through BIG ARTS or at the door.  Funds will help to support The Sanibel School music department and BIG ARTS.  We hope that you will be able to join us for this exciting performance!


Field Day for Kindergarten through fifth grade will be this Friday, April 7th from 8:30-10:45 am. Sixth graders will be running the 12 fun-filled stations for everyone to enjoy! All students are reminded to:

                     * Dress appropriately (t-shirt and shorts)

                    * Use sunscreen!

                    * Bring water bottles with their name on it

                    * Bring a change of clothes

                    *Use good sportsmanship! Field day should be FUN!




The four coaches of the Elementary Battle of the Books Team and Club SSYRA are proud to announce the members of their team!  The following 3rd through 5th graders were chosen to represent our school because they have read and tested on all, or nearly all, of the elementary Sunshine State books, attended and actively participated in weekly meetings, and received excellent ratings and recommendations from their teachers.  Congratulations to team members Maya Brennan, Elliot Decosta, Jessica Sellyei, Jamie Vosganian, and Lily Brennan.  Alternates include Helina Lifshatz, Luke Williams, and Joshua Welch.  We hope you’ll bring home the District trophy!  They’ll meet to review Mystery on Museum Mile and Half a Chance with Club SSYRA in the media center this Friday after school.

Track: The Girls’ Championship will be held at Fort Myers High School at 6:00 pm Monday, April 3. Gabby McKinney and Belle Meyers will be representing the girls’ team. The Boys’ Championship will be held at Fort Myers High School at 6:00 pm Tuesday, April 4. Liam Holston and Will Beyers will representing the boys. Please come out and support our team.  Coach Dykhuizen and Coach Wheeler would like to thank all track member for coming this year to represent the Seadragons and to remind them, if you have not already done so, please turn in your uniforms by Friday, April 8. 

Girls’ Soccer: Coach Scarnato would like to thank all the girls that came out for soccer this year. It was an honor to be your coach this year. Please return your uniform to Mrs. Scarnato by Friday, April 8th. 

Girls’ and Boys’ Tennis:  We will be having practice on Tuesday, April 4 and Thursday, April 6 from 2:15- 4:00 pm. All players need to meet in Mrs. Scarnato’s room directly after school. Parents, please be sure to pick up your players at 4:00 pm at the rec center. The girls and boys will have their first match of the season on Wednesday, April 5 at Dunbar Middle School at 4:30 pm. Team members are responsible for their transportation to and from the match, and should be there by 4:00 pm for warmup.

Girls’ and Boys’ Golf: The golf team will begin practice this week at The Dunes Golf and Tennis Club located at 949 Sand Castle Road, Sanibel Island. Practice will be Tuesday, April 4 and Thursday, April 6, right after school. The team members are responsible for their transportation to and from The Dunes. In order to be on the team you must have turned in your intramural form to Mrs. Scarnato.
