CITIZENS OF THE WEEK
Students in Kindergarten and 1st Grade earn Sea Horse tickets for good behavior, helpful attitude, and an eagerness to learn. Each week we select a Sea Horse ticket winner from these classes. These students get to come to the office and select a prize from our prize cabinet. The following students are this week’s citizens of the week: Mason Fase, Gretta Livermon, Essex Brodeur, and Cameron Lee. Congratulations!
MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS OF THE MONTH
Congratulations to the following outstanding middle school students, who were chosen by their teachers as Students of the Month for March: Max Vaughn, Tye Robison, Colin Menzel, Mallory Howard, Ethan Mathusa, and Othmane Martinez.

A.R. Pool Party Tomorrow
Students who have achieved their AR points for quarter 3 are eligible to attend the swim party tomorrow. If your child is eligible their teacher would have sent home a permission slip today for the event and it MUST be signed and returned tomorrow morning to the teacher. The Times for the party are as follows: Grades K-2 at 12:30-1:00, and Grades 3-5 at 1:05-1:35.
FISH OF SANCAP BACKPACP PROGRAM
Offered YEAR ROUND to Sanibel School students. Includes weekly bag of non-perishable, nutritious foods that are kid-friendly & easy to prepare. Those approved for Free/Reduced Lunch are automatically eligible. Students not enrolled in Free/Reduced Lunch may contact FISH for participation requirements. Contact Kathy Y. WASHINGTON, D. C. FIELD TRIP PARENT MEETING
Calling all 8th grade students and parents! There will be an informational meeting about the Washington, D.C. field trip on Wednesday, April 11th from 5:30- 6:30 pm in the cafeteria. Please plan on attending if your child is participating in this amazing fieldtrip!
ELEMENTARY CHOIR REHEARSAL MONDAY, APRIL 9TH FROM 2:15-3:25PM. NEXT REHEARSAL TO TAKE PLACE ON MONDAY, APRIL 16TH
The Elementary Choir will have a rehearsal on Monday, April 9th for a slightly extended time from 2:15-3:25pm in the music room. Our next rehearsal will occur on Monday, April 16th during our usual time from 2:15-3:05pm. Please contact Mr. Giangreco at [email protected] if you have any questions.
MANDATORY PERFORMING ARTS REHEARSAL PLACE WEDNESDAY, APRIL 11TH On Wednesday, April 11th, Performing Arts will be having a mandatory rehearsal after school in the music room and cafetorium from 2:15-5:30 pm. We will be working to prepare for our upcoming production of Disney’s The Lion King Jr. All Performing Arts students are expected to attend. VOLUNTEERS AND COMMUNITY SERVICE HELPERS NEEDED FOR A WILD ADVENTURE AT THE BOOK FAIR SAFARI!
We are celebrating reading and it's going to be WILD! This spring's Scholastic Book Fair Safari will be held April 11th through 18th in the Media Center, and we need volunteers! Volunteer safari hosts and guides can prepare decorations, hang posters, set up equipment, assist parent night and after school shoppers, restock merchandise, and help pack-up and clean up. Enjoy growing strong readers as you help shoppers track and locate books to take them on exotic adventures and grow their pride. SPRING MUSIC SHOWCASE TO TAKE PLACE THURSDAY, APRIL 12TH The Spring Music Showcase will take place Thursday, April 12th at 6:30pm in The Sanibel School Cafetorium. Seahorse Chorale, Elementary Choir, and a Fun with Instruments and STOMP group will all be performing on the Spring Music Showcase. Additionally, Performing Arts will present a sneak peak of their upcoming production of Disney’s The Lion King Jr. Tickets will be $5.00. All students from The Sanibel School will receive one free ticket to attend this show. Concessions will also be available for purchase. All funds raised will go to support the music department. Additionally, while you attend the Spring Music Showcase, be sure to stop by the Safari Book Fair in the Media Center and go on a reading adventure! Our yearly art show at The Alliance for the Arts is coming up and we have quite a few artists who will be representing The Sanibel School this year. This show represents all the best art work in Lee County, in Elem. and Middle Schools.

NATIONAL JUNIOR HONOR SOCIETY MEETING

2018 FSA BOOT CAMP
Mrs. Scarnato is organizing a boot camp for all middle school students taking the FSA. The sixth grade night for students who are taking 6th grade math will be April 16th, sixth graders taking 7th grade math will meet on April 17th, April 19th for Honors Algebra, and April 23rd for Pre-Algebra. Flyers were sent home with all middle school students.
BOOK WARS BOOKCLUB!
The Elementary SSYRA book club has had so much fun sharing books together this semester. We have 4 more meetings on Fridays from 2:15 to 3:30 each of the next 4 weeks of school. On Friday, April 13th, we’ll delve into A Whole New Ballgame and My Brother is a Superhero. On Friday, April 20th, the club will have fun with Maxi’s Secret and The Vanishing Coin. Both April 27th and May 4th we will have club meetings to help train the team of 6 students going to represent us at the Battle of the Books. All club members are appreciated and valued for their participation and contributions to the reading excitement! Keep reading, Sanibel!
THE SANIBEL SCHOOL SETS OUT TO ROCK THE BATTLE OF THE BOOKS!
We are SO proud of our Elementary Battle of the Books team! They have been reading all year and preparing all semester for the district-wide competition to be held May 5th at the School District office building. Good luck to Kate Doster, Luke Williams, Ven Sampas, Tony Underwood and Summer Stewart. We are also proud of our two team alternates Une Jankauskaite and Miles Priestly. Gooooo team!
KINDERGARTEN ORIENTATION AT THE SANIBEL SCHOOL
This year we will have an orientation for kindergartners on April 26, 2018 from 5:30 pm. to 6:30 pm. We invite you and your child to come tour our campus, have your questions answered, and meet the kindergarten teachers too. We look forward to meeting your family and are excited that you have chosen our school for your child’s education.
Parents of currently enrolled eighth graders were mailed their high school application on January 19, 2018. Those receiving applications can save time by applying online! Please read the documents sent to you carefully, and determine if you wat to apply online, mail it in, or bring it to the Lee County School District Office. If you are the parent of a preschool child that will be attending kindergarten next year, please contact Donna Marks (239-472-1617) for more information about registering your child for school next year.
Girls’ and Boy’s Tennis: Tennis practice for boys and girls are Tuesday, April 10th and Thursday, April 12th from 2:15- 4:00 pm. All players need to meet in Mrs. Scarnato’s room directly after school. In order for students to part take in sports their Intramural Athletics Acknowledge, Consent and Release Form must be turned in to Mrs. Scarnato. Parents please be sure to pick up your players at 4:00 pm at The Sanibel Rec Center. If you have any question please contact Mrs. Scarnato.

YEARBOOK COUNTDOWN FOR 100 MORE
Irma, the Flood, the Holidays, Taxes are now over (taxes almost). Each year we base the price of the yearbook on the amount it cost divided among how many books we believe to be purchased. This year we are under by 100! Please help our yearbook program out by purchasing one today. The cost is $45 but this book of memories for 2018 is priceless.

Parents can check their child’s grades by visiting our school website or accessing the Focus Parent Portal registration screen at http://focus.leeschools.net. We recommend that you check your child’s grades weekly.
PARENT PICKUP PARKING
We ask that all parents park in the Parent Pickup Parking Lot if you need to park before picking up your child. Please do not park at the Rec Center or bus ramp, as this creates safety concerns for our students. Thank you.

.PTA NEWS This year’s Seahorse Festival will be held for May 5th, from 4-7 at The Sanibel Community Park on Periwinkle (YAY-WE GOT APPROVED!!!) next to the Community House. A special thank you to Holly Nuckolls- PTA Secretary, Jason Maughan- City Commissioner, Keith Williams -Public Works, Judie Zimomra- City Manager, Sara Tabor and Crystal Mansell -City Hall, Alicia Clark- PTA Vice President, The Sanibel Fire and Police Departments, and anyone else that helped contribute to getting this year’s Seahorse Festival permitted to have it at The Park! This year’s Seahorse Festival is going to have a “Taste” theme. There will be several local restaurant venders offering various foods, deserts, and drinks. There will be several raffles, a silent auction, and beer and wine will be available for purchase. Entertainment will be the band “Wilder Sons”, along with a few of the kids performing skits. There will be serval games to play organized and ran by the kids and/or department heads/teachers to make their own money per their class or department (and there are some awesome games), and of course the Kid’s Inflatable Area will be available for purchase as always. Tickets at the door will be $5 for adults and kids are free. $20 wrist bands will be sold for the Kid’s Inflatable Area for unlimited play. Please consider volunteering for the Festival, we need as many helpers as we can get to make this a huge success! We are asking for event sponsorships if you are interested or if you would like to donate, please see attached forms for sponsorships and donations. And lastly, if you have a business that you would like to self-promote, we are allowing Vender Tables at $100 to set up and hand out marketing materials and freebees from the business.
