MAY HALF-DAY FUN DAYS AT REC
Half Day Fun Days: May 25th, May 29th & May 30th
Register your child now for upcoming Half Day Fun Days on Friday, May 25th, Tuesday, May 29th and Wednesday, May 30th. Each day will offer a variety of athletic games, craft projects and special entertainment! Enrollment is available for children in kindergarten through eighth grade. Half Day Fun Days operate from 12:10 – 5:30 p.m. Each child needs to bring a swimsuit and towel. Light snacks will be provided. This new option is now available to families seeking child care on school half days; however, these days are included at no charge for children currently enrolled in the After School Program. Full Day Fun Days: May 31st & June 1st
Join us Thursday, May 31st and Friday, June 1st for a variety of fun games, athletics, crafts and activities! Don’t forget our gym and swim combo (weather permitting). Our regular gym and swim combo is always a part of every Fun Day at Rec! Hours are from 8 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. and will be available for grades Kindergarten through Eighth Grade. Don’t forget to pack a swimsuit and towel. Each child will need to bring their own lunch on Fun Days. Register in advance and receive the “Early Bird” rate. REGISTER NOW FOR REC “SUMMER DAY CAMP”
June 4th through July 27th
The Sanibel Recreation Department “Summer Day Camp” is a traditional eight week day camp which will run from Monday, June 4th through Friday, July 27th. Camp will not be held on Wednesday, July 4th. The 2018 Summer Camp program is offered to children entering kindergarten through eighth grade Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Sanibel Recreation Center. This summer as a pilot program, Summer Camp will be open to children entering kindergarten. Please refer to the registration packet for specific kindergarten registration requirements. Campers will participate in activities such as swimming, arts and crafts and athletics, as well as, a variety of games. Summer camp will be available for purchase by the week. Campers should bring swim suit, towel and sunscreen daily. Breakfast and lunch will be provided each day. Register in advance and receive the “Early Bird” rate. COUNSELOR IN TRAINING PROGRAM
Students Entering 9th and 10th Grade
The City of Sanibel Counselor In Training (C.I.T.) Program is an exciting junior level personal development and leadership opportunity for teens entering 9th and 10th grade that are interested in volunteering with children in a recreational day camp setting. This is a special leadership program designed to prepare teens to become a camp counselor. C.I.T. students will gain valuable work experience, compression only CPR certification and earn community service hours all while making new friends. The Sanibel Recreation Department “Summer Day Camp” is a traditional eight week day camp which will run from Monday, June 4th through Friday, July 27th. There is an application that must be completed and returned to the City of Sanibel Recreation Department for review and approval. The application can be picked up at the Sanibel Recreation Center front desk. There will be a mandatory meeting for C.I.T.s on Monday, May 31st, from 10-3p.m. Registration includes lunch, activity participation, compression only CPR certification and field trip admissions when applicable.
SWAT is a youth swim team program for ages 5 to 18 designed to improve stroke technique and to build endurance. Participants must be able to swim the length of the pool (25 yards) in order to participate. In addition to becoming members of Sanibel Water Attack Team, swimmers will get a chance to join Swim Florida for competitions. SUMMER READING PROGRAM IS COMING!
The Summer Reading Program at the Sanibel Public Library will start with the annual Kick-off Party on Saturday, May 26, at 10 a.m. Last summer, readers earned 1,818 books for themselves; this number was matched by the Sanibel Public Library Foundation for the Golisano Children’s Hospital! BIG ARTS SUMMER CAMP
Registration is now open for our 2018 BIG ARTS Summer Arts Camps! BIG ARTS Summer Arts Camp offers a fun, unique, and well-rounded program of visual and performing arts for 1st - 5th graders as well as an apprentice program for 6th - 12th graders.
KIDS COMMUNITY BIBLE STUDY
This non-denominational, Bible based after school program runs for 5 Fridays starting Friday April 13 through May 11. Kids in Kindergarten through 6th grade are welcome. It will be a fun packed afternoon. Kids gather in the Sanibel School cafeteria from 2:10 – 4:00 pm. Registration forms are available on line at www.KidsForChristKCBS.com
VBS AT SANIBELCOMMUNITY CHURCH
Summer’s coming. Save the date for Rolling River Rampage, a white water rafting adventure theme for the week of June 4-8. YOUNG CHEFS COOKING SERIES AT THE COMMUNITY HOUSE
On Monday, May 7th, from 2:30-5:30, students at the Culinary Education Center will travel to Thailand
to learn to create Summer Rolls, Tom Yum Soup, Thai Chicken Salad, and Pineapple and Coconut Fudge. Join us to learn new culinary skills and try new flavors! F.I.S.H.OF SANCAP SUMMER YOUTH SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
FISH provides partial financial assistance for children’s summer camp sessions. Assistance is evaluated on a case by case basis. Eligibility for need-based financial assistance is determined through a review of income and expense documentation. Scholarship amounts vary, and scholarships may cover only a portion of cost. SANIBEL COMMUNITY CHURCH NERF NIGHT!
H20, The SCC youth ministry, is having a nerf night next Saturday, May 19th. The event will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the youth center. The event is open to both boys and girls. If you can please bring your own nerf gun, but if you do not have one there will be extras. H2O meets twice a week on Wednesdays and Sundays. On Wednesday middle school meets from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. and high school meets 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. On Sundays middle and high school meets from 11:00 to 12:00 p.m.
