WINTER TRIMESTER

ELEMENTARY AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM

Winter Trimester Runs November 6th, 2017 – February 16th, 2018

Registration is now available for the 2017-2018 Sanibel Recreation Center After School Program Winter Trimester.  The After School program runs Monday through Friday from 2:10 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. throughout the school year. It is available for children ages kindergarten through fifth grade. Sessions will require re-enrollment during each designated trimester and must be pre-purchased prior to the start of each session. WINTER TRIMESTER

TEENS AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM

Winter Trimester Runs November 6th, 2017 – February 16th, 2018
Registration is now available for the new 2017-2018 Sanibel Recreation Center Teen Scene After School Program Winter Trimester.  The Teen Scene After School program runs Monday through Friday from 2:10 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. throughout the school year. It is available for children in sixth through eighth grade.  Teens will enjoy a variety of on and off property activities throughout each school week including community service opportunities. Transportation for island activities will be provided via the City Teen Scene van.  A full schedule will be available at the Recreation Center front desk. Sessions will require re-enrollment during each designated trimester and must be purchased prior to the start of each session. S.W.A.T.

Register Now!

SWAT is a youth swim team program for ages 5 to 18 designed to improve stroke technique and to build endurance. Participants must be able to swim the length of the pool (25 yards) in order to participate. In addition to becoming members of Sanibel Water Attack Team, swimmers will get a chance to join Swim Florida for competitions. Stop by or call the Sanibel Recreation Center at (239) 472-0345 for more information on practice times and fee options.

 

AFTER SCHOOL CAST NETTING

For the month of October 2017, Sanibel Sea School will offer cast netting lessons for elementary and middle school students. This is an after school program designed for kids to learn how to use cast nets for the first time, or to hone their existing skills. Cast netting techniques and sight fishing for forage fish will be covered, and we will visit different locations to test our throwing abilities. Students will build their skills over this series in time to compete in the Annual Esperanza Woodring Memorial Cast Net Rodeo, to be held on November 4th.

Sanibel Sea School will pick up students from the Sanibel Recreation Center at 3:30 PM and parent pick up will be at Sanibel Sea School (455 Periwinkle Way) at 5:30 PM. Parents are also welcome to drop off their students at Sanibel Sea School.

Tuesday 10/24 from 3:30 - 5:30 PM. Open to Grades K-8. $20 per session.  

 

YOUNG CHEFS ‘COOKING SERIES AT THE COMMUNITY HOUSE

On November 6th, from 2:30-5:30, students at the Culinary Education Center will travel to India to learn to make Papadums, Raita Dip, Mango Chutney, Vegetable Tikka Masala, Chicken Korma, and Cardamom Cookies. Join us to learn new culinary skills and try new flavors!

Classes are designed for students 8 years old and up; $35 per child includes the meal prepared in class.

SANIBEL PUBLIC LIBRARY EVENTS

Clique (4th-6th grade) Tuesdays and Crew (K-3rd grade) Thursdays, both at 3 p.m. Each is tailored to the group’s age levels. Crafting, building, making, playing with books and a snack thrown in. LOGOS WESTERN ROUNDUP NIGHT

Yee-Haw!  This Wednesday, October 25 is Logos Western Roundup Night at Sanibel Community Church, 1740 Periwinkle Way.  All kids need to wear long sleeves and long pants and a cowboy hat.  We’ll have a rootin’, tootin’ time in the old corral from 3:30 pm – 6:45 pm.  There will be good country grub for supper.  For more information about registration contact Kathy Cramer 239-472-2684 or email [email protected]

This seminar is for children, youth, parents, teachers, counselors and community leaders.  A light meal will be provided.  Bullying seminars focus on raising awareness and providing help to those currently going through a bullying situation.    Areas of discussion, presented by Mary Fischer and Jan Klein, include:

· How and When To Seek Help

· Prevention and Intervention

 

FALL FAMILY FUN AT THE COMMUNITY HOUSE

On October 29th, from 4-6 pm, join Chef Jarred for Pumpkin Carving and Decorating along with a cooking class on Roasted Pumpkin Seeds and Glazed Pumpkin Spice Cake with Ginger Whipped Cream. $35 per person includes pumpkin, art supplies, and goodies. For reservations call 239-472-2155.

 

On October 31st, from 5-7 pm, the annual Costumes and Candy Carnival will feature carnival games, prizes, hayrides, and a dining area serving $2.00 meals. Show off your favorite costume! Admission is just one bag of Trick-or-Treat candy.
