UPCOMING HALF DAY FUN DAY AT REC!

Registration is Available Now!

Register your child now for the upcoming Half Day Fun Day on Friday, December 22nd. The Half Day Fun Day will offer a variety of athletic games and craft projects. Enrollment is available for children in kindergarten through eighth grade. The Half Day Fun Day program operates from 12:10 to 5:30 p.m. Each child needs to bring a swimsuit and towel. Light snacks will be provided on half days, children will need to bring their own lunch on full day. Half Day Fun Days are available to families seeking child care on school half days; this day is included at no charge for children currently enrolled in the After School Program. Chill out and join us for some frosty fun during this year’s winter break!   Highlights include on-island field trips, crafts, games and a variety of frozen holiday treats. The schedule will consist of 2, four day weeks of Holiday Camp this year. Holiday Camp will be Tuesday, December 26th through Friday, December 29th and Tuesday, January 2nd through Friday, January 5th with no camp on December 25th and January 1st. Holiday Camp will operate from 8 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. Enrollment is available for children in Kindergarten through Eighth Grade. Don’t forget to pack a swimsuit and towel. SWAT is a youth swim team program for ages 5 to 18 designed to improve stroke technique and to build endurance. Participants must be able to swim the length of the pool (25 yards) in order to participate. In addition to becoming members of Sanibel Water Attack Team, swimmers will get a chance to join Swim Florida for competitions. YOUNG CHEFS COOKING SERIES AT THE COMMUNITY HOUSE

On Monday, January 1st, from 2:30-5:30, students at the Culinary Education Center will travel to Spain

to learn to make Tapas, Gazpacho, Whole Grain Paella, and Caramel Flan. Join us to learn new culinary skills and try new flavors! SANIBEL COMMUNITY CHURCH

This upcoming week on Wednesday the 20th of December H20, the SCC Youth Ministry, will be having a Christmas party. It will be during the normal times for students, Middle school will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m and High School will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. There will be pizza, Christmas Tree decorating, cookies, a message, and small group time. We look forward to seeing you there!

H2O, the middle school youth program at Sanibel Community Church meets weekly at 1740 Periwinkle Way in Sanibel in the youth room from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.  All middle school students are welcome to attend.  Teens will experience games, conversation, small group time and worship. Also if you are hungry there is pizza, soda, and sweets at the snack bar. We will be discussing real life issues that teens are dealing with today. AFTER SCHOOL OCEAN ART AT SANIBEL SEA SCHOOL                                     On Thursday afternoons beginning November 30th, Sanibel Sea School will offer after school art classes for students in grades 1-5. Participants will have an opportunity to create beautiful, eco-friendly crafts made from natural materials each week. “We’ll have a different art project planned for each session, and we will provide all of the supplies,” said Director of Education Nicole Finnicum. “We love to offer After School Art around the holidays, because our creations make great gifts,” she added. Past crafts have included painted driftwood signs, sand dollar ornaments, and picture frames decorated with shells.  Sessions are from 3:30 to 5:30 PM, and parent pick up and drop off will be at Sanibel Sea School’s Flagship Campus (455 Periwinkle Way). Participants can register for individual classes for $20 each, or sign up for the four-week series at a discounted rate of $75. The event's purpose is to raise awareness for world hunger and poverty and to help us understand by a first-hand experience what it feels like to be hungry. For the entire 30 hours of the event we will be fasting and doing activities and service projects focused on helping or learning about hunger and poverty. There will be games, guest speakers, worship, a movie, a city built out of cardboard boxes, and many other things during the event. H2O YOUTH MINISTRY AT SANIBEL COMMUNITY CHURCH

On Thanksgiving Day we will also be having a Turkey Bowl from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. We will be hosting a pickup football game at the community park across from the Sanibel Bean. Water and equipment will be provided.

We will also be having a Nerf Battle in the Youth Center Saturday evening, November 25th, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. for all middle school boys.

ELF JR. THE MUSICAL PERFORMANCE

Creative Theater Workshop is a non-profit educational children’s theater company on Sanibel Island. ALADDIN AUDITIONS DEC 2                                                                                                                Creative Theater Workshop is a non-profit educational children’s theater company on Sanibel Island.  Looking for kids ages 8-12 and 12-18 to create two casts for the play Aladdin Jr. located at the Sanibel Community House Theater.  Once cast, CTW offers workshops such as singing, dancing, acting, stage combat and more throughout the rehearsal process.  Students have a blast learning from professionals while putting on a quality production on the island.  For more information and to sign up for an audition time, go to CTW.Life.  Can’t make the audition on December 2nd?  Ask for an early audition.

H2O YOUTH MINISTRY AT SANIBEL COMMUNITY CHURCH - NERF WARS H2O, the middle school youth program at Sanibel Community Church meets Wednesday  at 1740 Periwinkle Way in Sanibel in the youth room from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.  All middle school students are welcome to attend.  Teens will experience games, conversation, small group time and worship. Also if you are hungry there is pizza, soda and sweets at the snack bar. We will be discussing real life issues that teens are dealing with today. AFTER SCHOOL OCEAN ART AT SANIBEL SEA SCHOOL

On Thursday afternoons beginning November 30th, Sanibel Sea School will offer after school art classes for students in grades 1-5. Participants will have an opportunity to create beautiful, eco-friendly crafts made from natural materials each week.

 “We’ll have a different art project planned for each session, and we will provide all of the supplies,” said Director of Education Nicole Finnicum. “We love to offer After School Art around the holidays, because our creations make great gifts,” she added. Past crafts have included painted driftwood signs, sand dollar ornaments, and picture frames decorated with shells.

 Sessions are from 3:30 to 5:30 PM, and parent pick up and drop off will be at Sanibel Sea School’s Flagship Campus (455 Periwinkle Way). Participants can register for individual classes for $20 each, or sign up for the four-week series at a discounted rate of $75. THANK YOU TO ALL WHO DONATED COSTUMES

Costume collection is now complete. We want to thank every family who donated, including the scouts. After speaking with many schools including those in Bonita, The Alva School was selected as the school to receive our costumes. Your help relieved some stress and brought happiness to kids still living in hotels, repairing homes, and allowed each to be just another kid at school in a storybook parade.

One of our teachers generously donated trick or treat pails to pair with each costume. The girls decided since it’s also a storybook character parade, they wanted to donate a book that went with each costume. They did a great job getting them together quickly to deliver. AFTER SCHOOL CAST NETTING

For the month of October 2017, Sanibel Sea School will offer cast netting lessons for elementary and middle school students. This is an after school program designed for kids to learn how to use cast nets for the first time, or to hone their existing skills. Cast netting techniques and sight fishing for forage fish will be covered, and we will visit different locations to test our throwing abilities. Students will build their skills over this series in time to compete in the Annual Esperanza Woodring Memorial Cast Net Rodeo, to be held on November 4th.

Sanibel Sea School will pick up students from the Sanibel Recreation Center at 3:30 PM and parent pick up will be at Sanibel Sea School (455 Periwinkle Way) at 5:30 PM. Parents are also welcome to drop off their students at Sanibel Sea School.

Tuesday 10/24 from 3:30 - 5:30 PM. Open to Grades K-8. $20 per session.

COSTUME DONATIONS                                                    The Daisy and Brownie Girl Scouts for their first service project this year are going to be collecting gently used or new Halloween costumes for elementary age children. Parts of Lee County are still dealing with flood water in their homes and may still be displaced. At this difficult and financially stressful time for these families the Girl Scouts would like to add some normalcy into the children’s lives and take care of an added expensive for the family. Cast netting techniques and sight fishing for forage fish will be covered, and we will visit different locations to test our throwing abilities. Students will build their skills over this series in time to compete in the Annual Esperanza Woodring Memorial Cast Net Rodeo, to be held on November 4th.

Sanibel Sea School will pick up students from the Sanibel Recreation Center at 3:30 PM and parent pick up will be at Sanibel Sea School (455 Periwinkle Way) at 5:30 PM. Parents are also welcome to drop off their students at Sanibel Sea School.

Tuesdays in October-10/10, 10/17 and 10/24 from 3:30 - 5:30 PM. Open to Grades K-8

YOUNG CHEFS ‘COOKING SERIES AT THE COMMUNITY HOUSE

On November 6th, from 2:30-5:30, students at the Culinary Education Center will travel to India to learn to make Papadums, Raita Dip, Mango Chutney, Vegetable Tikka Masala, Chicken Korma, and Cardamom Cookies. Join us to learn new culinary skills and try new flavors!

Classes are designed for students 8 years old and up; $35 per child includes the meal prepared in class.

ANNIE DOG AUDITIONS

Creative Theater Workshop is a non-profit educational children’s theater company on Sanibel Island. Do you have a kid friendly dog who could play the part of Sandy?  Bring out your pet this Saturday, October 7th at 1:30pm located at the Sanibel Community Church for an audition for his/her starring role!  Your lovable pet can be any breed (no aggressive breeds please).  Each dog will need to come, sit and stay on command.  We are asking for a $10 donation per audition. Participants must be able to swim the length of the pool (25 yards) in order to participate. In addition to becoming members of Sanibel Water Attack Team, swimmers will get a chance to join Swim Florida for competitions. SANIBEL GIRL SCOUTS:   HALLOWEEN COSTUME DONATIONS                                                    The Daisy and Brownie Girl Scouts for their first service project this year are going to be collecting gently used or new Halloween costumes for elementary age children. Parts of Lee County are still dealing with flood water in their homes and may still be displaced. At this difficult and financially stressful time for these families the Girl Scouts would like to add some normalcy into the children’s lives and take care of an added expensive for the family. FIRST NIGHT OF LOGOS – FIESTA NIGHT ON OCTOBER 4

SUNDAY NIGHT SANIBEL UCC CREW KICKS OFF ON SATURDAY, OCTOBER 7th                 The Sanibel CUCC middle school and high school youth group - CREW - is kicking off the year of SERVICE PROJECTS, FELLOWSHIP, AND FUN with a trip to Headpinz on Saturday, Oct 7.
